The Please Butt It, Then Bin It campaign is Australia’s most comprehensive cigarette butt litter reduction advertising and awareness initiative. Elements include outdoor, radio, bus panels and other targeted advertising, promotion of personal ashtraysand butt bin infrastructure, interface with a range of stakeholders, and strategic support to local government and industry to reduce the impact of butts in the environment.
Research findings of campaigns delivered in Qld, ACT, SA, Victoria are available from KESAB. Research includes awareness of Butt It message, recall of campaign, litter data, and smokers views on the campaign.
KESAB environmental solutions "Please Butt It, Then Bin It"® campaign assists councils, business and the community to combat environmental damage occurring from cigarette butt litter. Asking smokers to butt out correctly and then to put the butts into a butt bin is important, and councils, business and community can assist by providing proper butt bin facilities.
Campaign messages encouraging behavioural change, signage, butt bin information and litter statistics combine to deliver comprehensive solutions to butt litter.
Personal ashtrays are used by KESAB environmental solutions as an element targeted to assist smokers with disposal where cigarette butt bins or ashtrays are hard to find. Butt bins and windproof ashtrays are recommended according to locations and community needs.
