WOW - Wipe Out Waste

WOW - Wipe Out Waste is a schools program of Zero Waste SA delivered by KESAB environmental solutions.

The Wipe Out Waste program is a whole school community approach to waste management and learning. 

This integrated and interactive education program for schools aims to:

 encourage schools to reduce waste to landfill 
    increase opportunities to learn about waste and waste processes 
      improve systems to reduce waste and recover resources in schools 
        monitor progress and continually improve waste outcomes in schools 
          reduce the environmental impact of schools 
            encourage and influence people to adopt more sustainable behaviour

A comprehensive resource, including information and related learning activities is available on-line at  www.wow.sa.gov.au  with CD ROM also available.   Workshops for school staff are being held across SA. Check the website to see when we are in your part of the state!

WOW WORKSHOPs are a whole or part day event - details of upcoming workshops are listed below. They are FREE and some funding for TRT or starting programs at your site is available.

Schools that have attended a WOW workshop since 2006 are eligible to apply, and it is expected that these grants will be offered annually, so watch this space for dates when the next round is announced!

NEW RESOURCES

Zero Waste SA has developed a Unit of work called 'Why Bring Your Own Bags' to coincide with SA's ban on single use checkout bags from May 2009. This resource includes activities from early years, primary years and middle years, with some very engaging activities. It can be downloaded here Why BYO Bags and can also be found in the WOW in Curriculum section, under Samples from Schools as the resource was developed by teachers.

2010 WORKSHOP DATES are posted below with more coming as dates are confirmed! Workshops are open to staff from Pre-schools to Secondary sites.

Monday 24th May from 3.50 - 6pm. WOW Workshop and Field Trip hosted by Risdon Park Primary School, Pt Pirie: for any site able to attend, particularly those in the local area

Tuesday 25th May from 1 - 4.45pm. WOW Workshop and Field Trip hosted by Whyalla City Council's Sustainable Environment Education Centre: for any site able to attend, particularly those in the local area

Thursday 27th May from 4.15 - 6pm. WOW Workshop and Field Trip hosted by Carlton School, Pt Augusta: for any site able to attend, particularly those in the local area
